So I know this movie came out like 2 years ago but it was on TV again last night and again I got sucked into watching it. It is probably one of the worst movies I’ve ever seen but because the music is so amazing I just find myself transfixed on the TV and unable to stop watching the car wreck that is Rent the movie.

This has me asking myself, why do some musical movies work and some just DON’T!! Like take for example Dream Girls, now that was an amazing musical movie or Grease, a classic, or even Hairspray, I almost enjoyed this movie as much as the show. But why do these work and ones like Rent, The Phantom of the Opera and The Producers just not make a smooth transition to the big screen. And why do I always get my hopes up that these musicals turned movies will be as amazing as the shows when they are nothing but a big disappointment, so bad that it almost embarrasses me to watch them.

I don’t have an answer to this question I wish I did. I would love to see Wicked made into a movie and then I could watch it over and over again but at the same time I hope it’s never made in a movie so it doesn’t ruin the greatness of it for me.

Anyone out there have any insight into what elements help make a great musical turn into a great movie??
