The world premier of the new musical Desperately Seeking Susan officially opened today November 15 at the West End Novello Theatre in London. The show has been in previews since October 16. The musical is based on the 1985 movie of the same name starting Madonna and Rosanna Arquette and is set to the hits of the group Blondie.
The show starts Emma Williams as the free-spirited Susan (Madonna in the movie) and Kelly Price as Roberta (Rosanna Arquette). The rest of the cast also features Mark McGee, Leanne Best, Alec Newman and Jonathan Wrather.
The story focuses around Roberta, a bored housewife who finds adventures for herself through the personal ads and her fascination with, a New York City drifter, Susan.
The musical is written by Peter Michael Marino and directed by Angus Jackson. The show is choreographed by American Andy Blankenbuehler.
