Godspell back on Broadway in 2008

Broadways first revival of Stephen Schwartz’s Godspell is scheduled to turn up on Broadway at the Shubert theatre in the summer of 2008.

Casting of Godspell will be announced at a later date but the show will be directed by Daniel Goldstein and choreographed by Christopher Gattelli.

Godspell features a score by Stephen Schwartz and a book by John-Michael Tebelak. Godspell is based on “The Gospel According to St. Matthew”, the show, according to press notes, uses “improvisation and contemporary themes to illustrate the parables, [brings] these lessons to life through the grand tradition of musical theatre.”

Godspell originally opened at Broadway’s Broadhurst Theatre in June of 1976 after a 5 year run Off- Broadway. It closed on September 4, 1977 after 527 regular performances.
